Wild video shows fire engulf Queens commercial building

Towering flames and thick smoke engulfed a strip mall in Queens early Saturday afternoon.

The FDNY said it was a two-alarm fire at the rear of 62-16 Woodhaven Street between 62nd Street and 62nd Road, which houses the Uzbek restaurant Taste of Samarkand. In the struggle, one firefighter was taken to Northwell Health with minor injuries.

According to the department, the restaurant was closed when firefighters arrived just before 11 a.m.

The Rego Park strip mall also has restaurants and other small businesses, some of which also appear to have caught fire in videos posted on social media.

Photos showed the charred remains of one of the destroyed outdoor dining huts.

A total of 25 FDNY units and 106 fire and emergency personnel responded to the fire and the fire was extinguished around 12:16 p.m., the department said.

Investigators are looking into whether the fire was caused by space heaters in the outdoor dining extensions of one or two of the restaurants, FDNY officials told the Post.
