Michigan Ski Town Gets Record-Breaking Snowfall in One Day

The long-standing record for most snowfall in a single day at a Michigan ski area was broken Friday when more than 2 feet of snow fell.

Gaylord, located in the northern part of the state and home to several popular ski resorts, received a whopping 24.8 inches of snow.

The previous record of 17 inches was set on March 9, 1942. The National Weather Service (NWS) says:

The previous record was 17 inches on March 9, 1942.

Photos shared on social media showed large amounts of snow accumulating outside people's homes.

AP report Treetops Resort has 80 ski acres of its 2,000 acres, so the snow was good news.

Recreation Director Doug Ho said he backed the rationale for snowmaking equipment to be ramped up by the resort's season opener next weekend.

“When we get this much snow, it's good for the snowy hills, of course, but it's bad for the parking lot, so we're digging it up,” Hoe declared.
