New York high school hockey player dead at 17 after ‘sudden medical event’

New York high school hockey player Connor Keishin died after suffering a “sudden medical event” during a game, his school announced in a letter to parents. he was 17 years old.

Massapequa High School sent a letter to staff and students confirming the death of the 12th grade student. The incident occurred on Saturday night.

“We are heartbroken to report that Connor did not survive. His death is devastating to the Massapequa community and we extend our deepest condolences to Connor's family and friends,” the letter said. It is written in News 12 Long Island.

Nassau County Police said in a news release that first responders went to the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center where Cashin collapsed. Police said a “civilian” began CPR until police and medical personnel arrived.

Police continued to investigate the incident.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Connor Cashin, a 12th grade student from Massapequa, who tragically passed away while playing in a charity hockey game,” said New York State Representative Anthony D'Esposito. D'Esposito wrote in a post to X.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to Connor’s family and the entire Massapequa community as we mourn this tragic loss.”

Kashin was playing for the Sharks Elite Youth Hockey team when the medical episode occurred.

“The Sharks are saddened by the sudden passing of 18U defenseman Connor Cashin. Please keep the Cashin family in your thoughts and prayers,” the club said in a Facebook post.

School officials said grief counseling will be available for students this week.
