Mexican Authorities Dissolve Migrant Caravan Headed to U.S.

Mexican immigration authorities have broken up one of the large migrant caravans moving through southern Mexico, promising to provide the group with bus transportation to other parts of the country and help with paperwork. The move comes shortly after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke by phone with US President-elect Donald Trump and threatened to impose tariffs if Mexico does not stop the flow of drugs, migrants and asylum seekers heading north. I was disappointed.

Over the weekend, members of Mexico's National Institute of Migration (INM) welcomed, dispatched buses and assisted more than 1,600 migrants from the Bendición de Dios (Blessings of God) migrant caravan, which began its journey in Chiapas earlier this month. I did it. The group had walked more than 400 kilometers to reach the U.S. border and apply for asylum. Agents told the migrants they would be provided with transportation to Guerrero and Michoacan states. Authorities provided assistance to the migrants and helped them prepare documents to apply for asylum with the U.S. government.

Breitbart Texas The caravan was reportedly headed north toward Mexico City but was expected to disband as migrants sought alternative means of transportation north, including by bus, plane, train and private cars. As other caravan members have done in the past.

Despite their deep distrust of the INM, the migrants accepted the aid and boarded the buses. The lack of trust stems from the fact that the INM has previously been accused of rounding up migrants in border cities and deporting them to southern Mexico.

INM released a statement over the weekend claiming it had not pressured or forced migrants onto buses, but instead provided aid.
