Woman arrested for eating cat declared Monday after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges.
Alexis T. Ferrell, 27, of Canton, was arrested in August after allegedly killing a cat by “stomping” on its head at an apartment complex, then began eating it, according to reports. WJW-TV.
Ferrell was sentenced to three years' probation in 2023 for felony child endangerment.
Police said they had received several calls regarding Ferrell and later released body camera footage from the arrest. Officers said Ferrell had blood on his legs and fur on his lips.
“Somebody please put some rubber gloves on, she's covered in blood,” a police officer seen on video said. Blood can be seen on the driveway as neighbors watch.
Video of the incident circulated online as evidence supporting President-elect Donald Trump's claims that Haitian immigrants were eating cats in Springfield, Ohio.
The Associated Press reported that Ferrell is neither an immigrant nor Haitian, and was born in Ohio.
Ferrell was initially charged with disorderly conduct and animal cruelty. A judge sentenced her to 12 months in prison for animal cruelty, according to court filings.
The court also ordered “the defendant's mental state at the time of the crime.”
Ferrell was sentenced to three years' probation in 2023 for felony child endangerment. With the new conviction, she will serve an additional 18 months in prison for a total of 30 months.
She also pleaded guilty to credit card theft and misuse in 2019.
