New York Democrats are pushing a bill that would strengthen protections for undocumented immigrants accused of crimes, even as Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) suddenly says she supports deportation of illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. is proposed.
As the country moves toward supporting President-elect Donald Trump's plan to deport illegal aliens, Hochul insisted at a news conference last month that he supports charging or convicting illegal aliens of crimes. Then, his attitude changed completely.
“If someone breaks the law, I'll be the first to call ICE and say, 'Get them out of here,'” the sanctuary governor yelled.
This surprising and sudden declaration aside, Hochul's state party does not appear to be following his lead. Thirty-one Democrats are currently co-sponsoring a bill in the state Senate that would further strengthen protections for illegal aliens in the state's criminal justice system. This is to keep them away from ICE agents trying to deport them.
Despite suddenly claiming that he supports the deportation of “criminals,” Hochul does not oppose the bill at all.

The law states that “no police officer, peace officer, or school resource officer” may communicate with ICE about any individual dealing with the justice system. Palladino is also shocked that state senators from two areas of New York City that were heavily favored by Donald Trump in the 2024 election also support this travesty.
“To make matters worse, two local state senators who represent my area of Queens are co-sponsors: John Lew and Toby Stavisky,” she wrote, adding: Did you support the bill with the far-left members of the Democratic Party that dramatically influenced President Trump in this election? Why would they do the exact opposite of what the voters voted for?”
“The truth is that deportation of criminals, especially gang members, is very popular across political lines, but we, the Democratic Party monopoly, don't care at all that they put criminals first. There doesn't seem to be anything in the way,” Paladino concluded.
