Israel Concerned About Syrian Chemical Weapons Falling into Rebel Hands

Israel reportedly fears Syrian rebels will seize chemical weapons stockpiles and production facilities used by Bashar al-Assad's regime as militias continue alarming advances against government forces I am doing it.

Syrian rebels have made unexpected advances in recent days, seizing the country's second-largest city, Aleppo, and seizing regime weapons, including Russian aircraft, air defense systems and Iranian drones.

Israel says it has no interest in taking sides in the battle, which has raged since the 2011 Arab Spring. However, the Times of Israel reported: Haaretz, report Israel is said to be concerned about the fate of Syria's chemical weapons facilities.

The Israeli military is concerned that chemical weapons could fall into the wrong hands amid attacks by Syrian rebels and the seizure of Assad's military positions in the country, Haaretz reported.

The main concern, the report said, is that rebel groups or Iranian-backed militias could reach Syria with missiles, chemical weapons or other weapons that pose a serious threat to Israel.

Haaretz said if such weapons fell into the hands of rebel groups or Iranian militias, Israel would be forced to take actions that “could have repercussions for Syria and the entire Middle East.”

Syria was supposed to get rid of its chemical weapons in a deal brokered by the Obama administration, following a gaffe by then-Secretary of State John Kerry. Under the agreement, Russia was to oversee the removal and destruction of Syria's chemical weapons. In reality, Syria retains deadly weapons and Russia has received tacit approval from the United States to return to the Middle East as a major player on the side of America's enemies.
