Homeowner opens fire on suspected burglar — who heads into another residence, steals truck, leads cops on high-speed chase

On Friday afternoon, a homeowner in Sacramento, Calif., opened fire on a robbery suspect, who then drove to another home, stole a truck and led police on a high-speed chase.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office told KOVR-TV At 3 p.m., officers received a report of a robbery along Chandler Drive in south Sacramento.

Sheriff's spokesperson Amar Gandhi said in a KOVR video report that the suspect has more than 20 years of “theft charges, firearms charges, drug charges, you name it, he's done it all in the open.” He said he is a “lifelong criminal” with a record that says “I have one.”

However, the suspect entered another residence shortly thereafter. The owner of the vacation home told KRCA that the suspect broke in after accidentally leaving the front door unlocked.

The suspect entered the garage, found keys in the front seat of the truck, and led officers on a high-speed chase on Highway 99, KCRA reported.

The owner of the vacation home, Cuong Nguyen, was not at home during the incident, but said the suspect crashed into his garage door to steal the truck, leaving half of the garage door “in the middle of the road.” told KCRA. i'm back.

The pursuit ended when Correa hit a spike strip near Arno Road, sending the truck rolling into a ditch, KCRA reported. The suspect was then taken into custody, KOVR noted.

Correa suffered minor injuries and is being held in the Sacramento County Jail on $100,000 bail, KCRA reported, adding that he is expected to be arraigned on four felony charges in court Tuesday.
