Drone activity near Trump Bedminster, Army arsenal spurs NJ flight restriction: FAA

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed on Tuesday that it had issued two flight restrictions following suspicious drone activity near President-elect Trump's New Jersey golf club.

On November 18, the FAA received its first report of drone activity within Morris County. The Morris County line is located approximately three miles north of Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Somerset County.

In response to requests from “federal security partners,” the agency issued two TFRs, or temporary flight restrictions, and several drone sightings continued this week in Central Jersey.

One of the restrictions is the area near the Solberg-Hunterdon County Airport, which includes the area over Trump Bedminster. Flights over Picatinny Arsenal, a major U.S. Army base in Dover, New Jersey, for research and development through the CCDCAC Weapons Center, were also prohibited.

The ban remains in effect this week for Trump Bedminster and will continue until December 26th for Picatinny Arsenal.

“Safely integrating drones into the National Airspace System is a key priority for the FAA,” the FAA said in a statement Tuesday.

The agency said it “investigates all reports of unauthorized drone operations and will investigate when appropriate,” and that drone operators who pose a danger to aircraft or people may have their certifications revoked or face $75,000 in fines. He added that he could be fined.

Local media reported that law enforcement agencies were also investigating continued drone activity in the area.

Sightings have also occurred a few miles north of Bedminster in Mendham and Parsippany, where I-80 and I-287 converge.

A Parsippany woman told the Morristown Record that she saw as many as five drones flying overhead Sunday night.

Morris County Sheriff James Gannon said New Jersey Patch poses “no immediate danger to the public at this time” and asked the public to send clear photos of the drone to law enforcement.

An FBI spokesperson said the bureau's Newark field office and New Jersey State Police are investigating.

The drone sighting in New Jersey comes after an unidentified drone was spotted over a joint Anglo-American base in the United Kingdom.

A “swarm of small drones” has been spotted over RAF Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Fairford and Feltwell. Some of those bases are home to F-15 and F-35 fighter jets.

The British military has deployed dozens of personnel to protect the base, and a Pentagon spokesperson said on November 26 that any intrusion did not affect buildings, personnel or assets at the base.

'90s punk rock band Green Day also canceled a show in Detroit in September after a drone was spotted in the sky. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong rushed backstage as they closed out “Longview.”

The show resumed about 10 minutes later, and Detroit police said a man was taken into custody.
