The Jets scheduled a meeting with Sean McDermott to become head coach on January 14, 2015. In the end, they canceled the night before they decided to hire Todd Bowles.
Three years later, Bowles was part of a Jets contingent that traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, to watch Josh Allen pitch at his pro day on March 23, 2018. The Jets decided to draft Sam Darnold instead.
Currently, there is no way to know if McDermott would have been successful as the Jets' coach or if Allen would have been the current MVP candidate. But on Sunday night, as the Bills celebrated their fifth straight AFC East title, they were busy making snow angels.
The Jets are currently searching for their fourth head coach after canceling a meeting with McDermott, then the Panthers' defensive coordinator. Since replacing Allen, they've had Darnold, Zach Wilson and Aaron Rodgers as their franchise quarterbacks, and will likely look for another quarterback in 2025.
