Quick-thinking robbery victim turns the tables on 2 gun-toting crooks — a male and female — behind Memphis hotel

A resourceful robbery victim turned the tables on a man and woman at gunpoint early Friday morning behind a Memphis hotel.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Classic Inn on American Way at 6:15 a.m. WMC-TV reportedThis information was provided by the Memphis Police Department.

But when the man and woman with the gun heard a loud bang in the distance and turned around, the victim grabbed the woman's gun…

Police found a man shot multiple times and a woman shot in the upper arm, WMC said, adding that the man was in critical condition and the woman was in non-critical condition, but both were hospitalized.

Another call came from behind a hotel on Fairbrook Street, where police met a man who told them he was the one who fired shots at a man and a woman, who said he had tried to rob them, the department said.

According to WMC, the man said he arrived at the hotel early that morning to meet a woman who was eventually shot and hospitalized.

The man said a woman wrapped in a blanket approached him and asked if he was armed, the department said.

After the man said he was unarmed, she lured him to the back of the building, giving the impression that she was going to her car, WMC noted.

But just as she realized the car was missing, the woman pointed a gun at the man and demanded he hand over her property, the department said, adding that the man then appeared and also pointed a gun at the man.

In response, the victim threw his wallet on the ground, WMC reported.

Suddenly the script is flipped

However, when the man and woman with the gun heard a loud noise in the distance and turned around, the victim took the woman's gun, after which an accomplice fired at the victim, the department said.

However, her accomplice missed and the victim opened fire, striking them both, WMC reported.

The victim ran away but was not injured. WREG-TV reportedadded that the police report indicates that one of the suspects is linked to another report already prepared by police.

Police said all three people were taken into custody, WMC said.

Gene Perry was charged with aggravated robbery, was convicted of being a felon in possession of a handgun, and was held on $360,000 bail, WREG added.

Alexius DeBerry was charged with aggravated robbery and held on $100,000 bail, WREG reported, adding that her mugshot was not available.
