House GOP releases 2025 legislative calendar

The House of Representatives is scheduled to elect a speaker on January 3, after the new Congress is sworn into office. The House of Representatives is in session for all but three weeks during the first quarter. With President Trump taking office on January 20th and Republicans controlling both houses of Congress, the agenda is likely to pile up.

As per tradition, lawmakers spend the entire month of August in their jurisdictions and return to the Capitol after Labor Day. There are just seven weeks of House district activity on the calendar before that holiday.

Lawmakers will return to the House for three weeks before a week-long break that includes the start of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish fall holiday. District Week is just a few days away from September 30th, the end of the fiscal year.

According to Scalise's schedule, the House will convene on Sept. 29 and 30, ahead of a recess for people celebrating the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

November is a light month, with two weeks in session, and December has another three weeks to conclude the first half of the 119th Congress.
