Incoming Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Speaks Glowingly of Hegseth

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), a prominent lawmaker and soon-to-be chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, spoke glowingly about President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, after a meeting on Wednesday.

Max Cohen, a Congressional reporter for Punchbowl News, reported that Mr. Hegseth was “impressed” with Mr. Wicker, and that Mr. Wicker “appreciated” his vision for the Pentagon.

The Hill's Alexander Bolton reported that Hegseth vowed not to drink alcohol if Wicker was confirmed as defense secretary, and Wicker told reporters, “I think that's probably a good idea.” That's what it means.

Hegseth also spoke with incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) on Wednesday. Thun has high praise for Hegseth and shares his vision for the Department of Defense.

In an interview at megyn kelly show Hegseth, who has received significant support from prominent MAGA figures, said Wednesday that his meeting with senators was “great.”

“No one has ever looked me in the eye and said, 'I can't vote for you because of my concerns.' In fact, most people have said, 'Let's take a picture, I'll be right behind you.' ” he told Kelly.
