Honda is recalling approximately 206,000 Passport and Pilot vehicles that may have fuel leaks.
The automaker announced the action Thursday, saying affected 2023-2024 Passport and 2023-2025 Pilot sport utility vehicles have “an incomplete connection between the fuel filler neck tube and the fuel filler pipe. There is a possibility that the two parts could separate in the event of a collision.” Fuel may leak, increasing the risk of fire and injury. ”
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall report, the potential problem was caused by an “out-of-order process” in installing the fuel pipes, which “could result in the fuel neck tube and fuel pipe not fully connecting.” That's what it means.
The vehicles subject to the recall were manufactured between February 2023 and May of this year.
Honda says so far there have been no injuries or deaths caused by the possible connection failure. The company has filed one warranty claim regarding this issue.
The automaker said it announced the recall to “encourage owners of affected vehicles to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer for inspection as soon as they receive notification.”
Honda says owners will receive a letter informing them of the recall in early January.
For recalled vehicles with incomplete connections between parts, staff at dealerships will “connect the fuel filler neck and filler pipe,” the automaker said. Both inspection and maintenance will be free of charge.
The Honda Pilot has been part of the automaker's range of vehicles for many years. The Honda Passport is back in 2019.
Earlier this week, American Honda reported that it has sold approximately 127,700 Honda Pilots in the United States so far this year. According to the automaker, U.S. sales of the Passport were about 29,200.
