Philadelphia Mayor Sherrell L. Parker is avoiding confirming Philadelphia's “sanctuary city” status following President Donald Trump's landslide victory, despite pressure from Latino activists.

But activists are angry that Mr. Parker has not focused more attention on the issue.

“We are concerned about her lack of public support,” said Patti Torres, an immigration activist and co-deputy director of Make the Road Pennsylvania. “Now more than ever, Philadelphia desperately needs leaders who will protect immigrant families.”

“We hope she will fight back like previous administrations have done. We will fight back together and make sure the city You can protect your family and your freedom.”

Some have interpreted Parker's refusal to jump on the sanctuary train as evidence that she supports the incoming Trump administration's deportation goals.

Rafael Mangaal of the Manhattan Institute argued that Parker's reluctance to comment on the issue is “a sign that she intends to back away from sanctuary city policy.”
