It was a tense fourth quarter between the Grizzlies and the Kings on Thursday night in Memphis.
Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant was ejected after receiving a second technical for reacting to a foul call against himself while facing a fadeaway from Kings veteran DeMar DeRozan.
The referees admitted in the post-match pool report that the decision was wrong.
Like the announcers who answered the phone, Morant immediately seemed confused by the call and grabbed his head and punched his hand multiple times.
Morant then walked toward the bench, pointing in the direction of referee John Butler and saying something inaudible.
The interaction with Butler led to a technical issue.
Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins was seen with his arms outstretched on the sideline, and another coach on the staff held him back.
As Morant was taken off the floor, Jenkins was yelling at the umpire, pointing in his face.
Memphis led by one point, 98-97, when Morant was ejected midway through the fourth quarter.
Referee crew chief Pat Freier said: Post-match pool report Morant shouldn't have been called for a foul when he was guarding DeRozan.
“In live play, officials believed Morant hit DeRozan on his jump shot. However, after a postgame review, Morant was in a legal defensive position and should not have been called for a foul.” said Fraher.
The Grizzlies defeated the Kings 115-110 at FedExForum.
