New Zealand v England: second men’s cricket Test, day three – live | New Zealand v England 2024

A second day on fast forward left the Kiwis bowled out for just 125 – a hat-trick for Gus Atkinson’s embossed leather wallet. Then England’s blades and guns did their bit – 90s for Duckett and the astonishing Bethell – while Joe Root has a chance to shuffle up the pantheon this evening if he can collect his 36th Test hundred (27 more needed).

You wish New Zealand a long second innings at this beautiful ground, but with the lead 533 already, you fear for their busted confidence. That 3-0 thrashing of India accelerates fast into the distance.

I felt very sleepy after eating a lot. Served with apple crumble and brandy cream. Sorry if the update is late at night. It remains to be seen whether England made an overnight declaration or whether Stokes is aiming for an even bigger lead.

“New Zealanders Chris Wood's latest goal in Forest's 3-2 win over Man Utd at Old Trafford has been the talk of the town.

Ali was busy I have some laundry to do this morning, but I always have time for the Guardian's OBO readers.

“The wind is much stronger today and may be a bit gusty making fishing in the deep difficult. It may also help Shoaib Bashir find his flow when it comes time for England to bowl. .”

Here's Ali Martin's take on yesterday's play:

preamble

Hello! Storm Dollar is huffing and puffing outside the window, while in Wellington England are quietly sailing towards their first Test series win in New Zealand since 2008.

Fast forward to day two and the Kiwis were bowled out for just $125, a hat trick for Gus Atkinson's embossed leather wallet. England's knives and guns then played their part – Duckett and the amazing Bethel nineties – while Joe Root has a chance to shuffle through the pantheon tonight if he can muster his 36th Test hundred. Yes (27 more needed).

I hope New Zealand can play a long two innings on this beautiful ground, but I'm worried that their confidence will suffer as they are already leading by 533 runs. India's 3-0 victory quickly accelerates into the distance.

Play starts at 10pm, but there's more room on the couch.
