World’s Oldest Wild Bird Lays Egg at Age 74

An albatross, which researchers believe is the oldest bird in the wild, has laid an egg at the staggering age of 74, wildlife officials have announced.

A Laysan albatross named Wisdom, “the world's oldest known wild bird,” was observed returning to the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge on Midway Island, northwest of the Hawaiian Islands, last week, U.S. Fish said. This was announced by the US Wildlife Service (USFWS). Mr. Northwestern said:

She did it again! Wisdom, the world's oldest known wild bird, has returned with a new partner and has just given birth to another bird…

Researchers said that upon arrival, Wisdom “immediately began interacting with the male.”

“Like other Laysan albatross (Molly in Hawaiian), Wisdom returns to the same nesting site each year to reunite with its mates and, if possible, lay a single egg. It remains with the same partner for decades. “The bird had not been seen in several years, so Wisdom started doing courtship dances with other males,” USFWS officials said.

The chicks hatching from the new eggs are expected to be the first known offspring of Wisdom since 2020.

Look — Wisdom delivered food to the chicks a few years ago.

“We are optimistic that the eggs will hatch,” said Jonathan Prisner, the preserve's supervising wildlife biologist, calling it “a special joy.”

The albatross laid an estimated 50 to 60 eggs during its lifetime, Plison said.Eh, I added.

of lifespan Laysan albatross' lifespan is 12 to 51 years, but the typical lifespan is 10 to 19 years, according to the University of Michigan Zoological Museum.
