The Alabama Crimson Tide will find out Sunday whether they will advance to the 12-team College Football Playoff despite missing the SEC Championship this season.
Alabama did not participate in the conference championship weekend, and Georgia won the SEC by defeating Texas in overtime. Furthermore, if SMU had held off Clemson, Alabama might have made the playoffs, but Dabo Swinney's Tigers won the ACC championship.

Now, Alabama's fate is in the hands of the College Football Playoff selection committee. Greg Byrne, the school's director of athletics, pushed for Alabama to be included.
“Strength of schedule is important,” he wrote to X. “Not all schedules and conferences are created equal.
“Six of our eight wins have come against bowl-eligible teams, and we've played some of the top teams in the SEC, including SEC champion Georgia.”

Byrne also posted a graphic showing Alabama ranks third in opponent winning percentage, 17th in ESPN's strength of schedule and has three wins over teams in the College Football Top 25 poll.
The University of Alabama finished the regular season with 9 wins and 3 losses.
The University of Alabama was ranked 11th in the penultimate rankings of the College Football Playoff. The Miami Hurricanes were the first team to look from the outside in.
