Kinzinger has 'absolutely no worries' Trump will try to put him in jail

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) said he is “not at all worried” that President-elect Trump will try to put him in prison.

Trump sat down with “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday for his first sit-down interview since winning the election. He suggested he would not explicitly order his appointees to go after political opponents, but he did mention jailing members of the Jan. 6 selection committee, which Kinzinger was also a part of. .

Kinzinger appeared on CNN on Sunday and was asked if he was concerned about his future under the Trump administration.

“No, I'm not worried about this at all,” he replied. “First of all, the executive branch can't go after the legislative branch because we embarrassed the legislative branch. It's not a crime and it's not against the law.”

Kinzinger noted that most of those who testified before the committee were Trump's fellow Republicans.

“So, look, he's…embarrassed and very hurt right now. He's not going to come after us and he's not worried at all,” Kinzinger said.

There are concerns that President Trump will use the Justice Department to go after his rivals as he prepares to re-enter the White House. This is what he previously said when facing his own criminal charges.

The cabinet that the next president is about to form also raises questions. He is surrounded by supporters who, unlike the first administration, will not hold Trump back.

Kinzinger, who chose not to run for re-election after serving seven terms in the House, is one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. It was one of the people. He was one of two Republicans to serve on the Jan. 6 committee, including former Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who lost the 2022 primary.

He has continued to be a fierce critic of President Trump, and said after the election that he had “no fear” of a second term for Trump.
