Kentangi Brown Jackson is headed to Broadway – the Supreme Court justice will make her Great White Way debut this week as part of a one-night-only performance.
The 54-year-old judge will appear in a walk-on role in the Broadway musical comedy “And Juliet” on Saturday night, production and Supreme Court officials confirmed Monday.
Jackson had previously expressed a desire to become “the first black female Supreme Court justice on Broadway,” a seemingly unlikely goal in her application to Harvard, but the show ended. Afterward, he will sit down for a talkback with the audience. .
The “Lovely One” author hinted at the possibility of appearing on the Broadway stage earlier this year, saying in September that he was “waiting for the right opportunity.”
Asked by The Atlantic if he had his eye on a particular production, Jackson replied, “Anything. I love all kinds of Broadway. Musicals are the best.”
“'Wicked.' I love 'Wicked,'” she added.
According to the promotional site, “& Juliet'' is a modern take on William Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet,'' in which the female protagonist “abandons the well-known ending for a new beginning and a second chapter in life and love.'' “I will make changes in my own way.'' The musical features pop songs from the '90s and early '20s by Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson, and more.
