Trump Picks Harmeet Dhillon as Assistant AG for Civil Rights at DOJ

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated attorney Harmeet Dhillon to be the Justice Department's assistant attorney general for civil rights.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said was praised Dillon praised him for “consistently standing up” to protect people's “civil liberties” and as a “representative of Christians who have been prevented from praying together” during the COVID-19 pandemic. .

“I am pleased to nominate Harmeet K. Dhillon to serve as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the United States Department of Justice,” President Trump wrote. “Throughout his career, Harmeet has consistently stood up to protect our cherished civil liberties, including confronting Big Tech that censors free speech and standing together during the coronavirus pandemic. This includes representing Christians who are prevented from paying their bills and suing companies that use woke policies to discriminate against Christian workers.

“Mr. Harmeet is one of the nation's top election lawyers, working to ensure that every and only legal vote is counted,” Trump continued. “She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia School of Law, and serves as a clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.”

President Trump continued, “Harmeet is a respected member of the Sikh religious community. In his new role at the Department of Justice, Mr. Harmeet will be a tireless defender of our constitutional rights and will continue to support civil rights laws and elections. We will enforce the law fairly and firmly.”

Dillon responded to Trump's announcement by saying she was “very honored” by Trump's nomination, adding that it had been her “dream” to serve the United States. Dillon added that he is “excited to be part of a great team of attorneys” led by Pam Bondi, President Trump's nominee for attorney general.
