Pepperdine University announced early Tuesday morning that the Franklin Fire in Los Angeles County, California, continues to impact the city and shelter-in-place conditions will continue “at least until nightfall,” the university announced.
Pepperdine's updates have been distributed through the university's Facebook and X pages starting just before 1 a.m. local time.
“The university understands that the worst of the fire has passed Pepperdine,” the latest post on X reads. “However, there are small spot fires occurring on campus that do not pose a threat to life or buildings, and firefighting resources remain on campus to respond to these spot fires when they occur.”
The post continued, “Additionally, as power continues to be out in much of Malibu, we will maintain shelter-in-place protocols until at least nightfall to ensure the safety of our community. EOC will continue to update information. I will continue to do so.” community. “

Operations at the Malibu campus have been suspended since Tuesday, with classes and final exams canceled as students prepare for winter break.
After the university's Emergency Operations Committee (EOC) was activated, evacuation orders were issued for local residents, directing them to the Tyler Campus Center and Payson Library.

A third-alert wildfire near Malibu Canyon Road and the station boundary has forced residents in the area to evacuate and other residents are under evacuation advisories.
So far, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths from the fire. According to FOX Weather.

Los Angeles County Fire Department units are battling the wildfire on the ground and in the air, the department said on Facebook.
The fire has burned more than 1,822 acres and is 0% contained, according to Cal Fire. The incident occurred at 10:50 p.m. The cause is under investigation.

The fire prompted authorities to evacuate and close Pacific Coast Highway between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Coral Canyon Road. FOX11 Los Angeles reported.
