Clarksburg, West Virginia (weboy) — At the peak of this week's Geminid meteor shower, people around the world could see up to 120 meteors per hour.
The Geminid meteor shower is considered to be one of the best and most reliable meteor showers that occurs in mid-December each year. NASA.
Unlike most meteor showers, which have limited viewing range and time, the Geminid meteor shower's peak can be seen from both hemispheres from around 9pm to 10pm local time.
The Geminid meteor shower begins in mid-November and continues until Christmas Eve, but is expected to peak this Friday and Saturday. The full moon may wash out some meteors, but in clear and dark conditions, observers can still expect to see yellow light streaking across the sky.
According to NASA, the Geminid meteor shower will be visible throughout the night starting as early as 9 p.m., but viewing it may require some patience.
NASA recommends that viewers find a dark spot away from street lights or streetlights and lie on their backs with their feet facing south.
It may take up to 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness before you can start seeing meteors.
