FBI Director Christopher Wray is expected to announce his resignation and step down from his post.
Fox News has learned that Wray is scheduled to make the announcement at an FBI town hall in Washington, D.C. Thousands of FBI agents from across the country are expected to participate virtually in the event.
Ray was in the seventh year of his 10-year term.

The Washington, D.C., Republican lawyer was hired by then-President Trump after he fired former Secretary of State James Comey in 2017.
Since being re-elected to a second term in the Oval Office, President Trump has nominated Kash Patel to replace Wray, giving the current chief two options: resign voluntarily or be fired.
Wray's final day has not yet been determined, but it is expected to be in January, before President Trump's inauguration.

The moment Ray formally steps down, Vice Chairman Paul Abbate will become acting Chairman until a new Director (Patel, if confirmed) takes over. Mr. Abate is a career bureaucrat and will soon be eligible to retire from the department. He had been planning to retire in the new year for several months.
