Trump to ring opening bell at NYSE

President-elect Trump is scheduled to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York on Thursday, a person familiar with the plans said.

President Trump is scheduled to fly to New York City from his home in Palm Beach, Florida, on Wednesday night and ring the bell the next morning.

The president-elect is reportedly set to be named Time magazine's “Person of the Year,” and ringing the bell will celebrate the announcement. Politico reported. He was selected for the honor this year along with other celebrities such as podcaster Joe Rogan.

When Time Inc. named megastar Taylor Swift its Person of the Year last year, Time Inc. CEO Jessica Sibley rang the opening bell.

After being elected to his first term as president in 2016, Trump was also named “Person of the Year.”

The president-elect, a longtime New Yorker and real estate mogul before moving to Florida, had never rang a bell before. The opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange marks the beginning of trading for the day.

Former first lady Melania Trump rang the opening bell in September 2019 to promote the then-White House initiative “Be Best.”
