Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Rep. Chip Roy of Texas independently co-authored the letter. obtained Blaze News blasted the Biden Justice Department for prosecuting a medical whistleblower who exposed medical intervention on transgender children.
The Justice Department has accused Dr. Ethan Heim, the whistleblower who revealed that Texas Children's Hospital performed transgender surgeries and treatments on minors, withheld sensitive medical and personal information about patients. Despite this, the company is being prosecuted for allegedly violating HIPAA. Heim's advocacy alerted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, prompting him to issue a formal opinion in 2022 classifying the procedure as child abuse.
“The Department of Justice was wrong to indict Dr. Heim for blowing the whistle on child abuse crimes.”
“The hospital's actions raise concerns that it continues to intentionally harm young children for left-wing policy purposes,” the letter said.
Just a month after Paxton's comments, Texas Children's Hospital announced it would stop performing transgender medical interventions on minors, but Heim said the hospital continued to perform the surgeries. As a result, the Department of Justice decided to prosecute Mr. Heim.
“The Department of Justice was wrong to indict Dr. Heim for whistleblowing crimes of child abuse,” the letter said. “As the subcommittee considers this issue to inform potential legislative changes that would strengthen civil liberties and protect minors, Texas Children's Hospital has relevant documents and information in its possession. That's what I think.
Jordan, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and Roy, chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, ordered Texas Children's Hospital to provide all relevant communications and documents regarding Heim and transgender treatment of minors. I asked him to hand it over.
