John Fetterman’s surprising take on a Trump pardon

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman once again broke ranks with Democrats.

Following President Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter Biden, Fetterman spoke out against what he called “partisan” events on both sides of the aisle.

“Weaponizing the judiciary for overt partisan gain diminishes collective trust in our institutions and sows further division.”

Biden's sweeping pardon for his son was controversial even within his own party. Mr. Hunter was eventually convicted of federal gun and tax crimes, and Mr. Biden himself vowed during his term never to forgive his son.

Biden's pardon has drawn bipartisan scrutiny, but Republicans unanimously view the lawsuit against Trump as an act of political malfeasance. Although this view is common within the Republican Party, it alienated Fetterman from his Democratic colleagues.

“Trump’s hush money and Hunter Biden case are both bullshit, and a pardon is appropriate,” Fetterman said. said I said this in my first Truth Social post on Wednesday. “Weaponizing the judiciary for overt partisan gain diminishes collective trust in our institutions and sows further division.”

Mr. Fetterman reiterated this belief last week in an appearance on “The View” following Mr. Hunter's pardon.

“I think it's undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was in fact politically motivated, but I also think it's true that the New York trial against Trump was also political,” Fetterman said. said. said.

“In both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate and, overall, these types of events have eroded America's confidence in these types of institutions and have made these types of institutions a political tool in our country. I really don't think we can allow ourselves to be used as a weapon against our 'enemy,''' Fetterman continued.

Even though Trump was convicted of 34 felonies, New York Judge Juan Machan dismissed the case after Trump's lawyers argued that presidential immunity exempted him from the charges.
