I Would Accept Preemptive Pardon if Biden Offers

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi) told CNN's “The Newsroom” Thursday that as the former chairman of the Jan. 6 committee, he would accept a pre-emptive pardon if President Joe Biden offered it. said.

Host Jim Acosta says, “Tamp says he should go to jail. Are you worried about him or the FBI coming after you?”

Mr. Thompson said: “As you know, we are members of Congress. We operate based on instructions from Congress. There are certain laws that give security to members of Congress. I hope the president will take that into account. I hope so. But honestly, Jim, we didn't do anything wrong.”

Acosta said, “Congressman, it appears that the White House is discussing pre-emptive pardons for people who may be targeted when Trump returns to office. Would you like the president to grant you some kind of pardon?” ?”

“Mr. President, that's the president's prerogative. If he offered it, I think I and the other members of the committee would accept it, but that's his choice. The staff on the committee is doing a great job,” Thompson said. I think the witnesses, who were mostly Republicans, did a great job under oath. There's no finding on the record that they perjured anything. , nothing is off the mark. There has been a two-year review by the Republican chairman, and nothing has been found. We support our committee's work. We've done a great job. We're sharing it with the public and all they have to do is read the report that we've submitted.”
