Massachusetts Has Worst Drivers in America

A recent LendingTree investigation revealed some bad news for those behind the wheel in Massachusetts.

From November 5, 2023 to November 4, 2024, Massachusetts drivers had 61.1 incidents (accidents, drunk driving, speeding, and traffic stops) per 1,000 drivers. Next worst are Rhode Island (60.6) and California (55.0).

Massachusetts also has the highest accident rate. Massachusetts — with 44.4 accidents per 1,000 drivers — is the only state with more than 40.0. Rhode Island and California tied for second with 39.7 each.
