A thief stole $500,000 worth of jewelry from a tourist at a pizza restaurant in Queens, but was quickly caught by police thanks to an Apple AirTag in the victim's suitcase.
According to the New York City Police Department, Sandro Angiolini decided to stop for dinner at Rosa's Pizza in Astoria with a suitcase filled with about $500,000 worth of jewelry.
As Angiolini, 50, walked from his car to the pizza shop, he was jumped by several men who jumped out of a black SUV.
Police sources said the men pushed Angiolini to the ground, beat him and took away a silver suitcase full of his belongings.
The punks then jumped into the SUV and rammed it. But little did they know, the bag was equipped with an Apple AirTag that tracks its location.
NYPD investigators were able to track the vehicle to 217th Street in Bayside, where they recovered a suitcase filled with jewelry and arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery.
Brayan Pulido, 23, and Sandy Pulido, 22, were arrested and now face a number of charges.
Each is charged with possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment, unlawful flight from a police officer in a motor vehicle and windshield tinting violations, according to the NYPD.
Brayan faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.
According to police sources, several people involved in the robbery are still at large.
