Live coverage: Anxiety about East Coast drone sightings intensifies; Trump to attend Army-Navy matchup

President-elect Trump will head to Maryland on Saturday afternoon with political allies to watch a rivalry football game between Army and Navy, amid growing public concern over drones spotted on the East Coast.

After reports of mysterious drones sighted in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania throughout this week, lawmakers, state and local officials are responding to regular sightings across the region. They are seeking federal resources to deal with it. They also called on federal agencies to be more transparent about the situation.

As the government shutdown deadline approaches, some members of Congress, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), have been briefed on the sightings. House leaders say a final funding plan to keep the government's lights on will likely be released this weekend.

Concerns also remain about the health of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who was hospitalized Friday after falling down a flight of stairs in Luxembourg during a visit to Congress.

Later Saturday, President Trump is scheduled to attend the annual Army-Navy matchup in Maryland, along with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and Daniel Penny, who was acquitted of manslaughter charges this week.

Pete Hegseth, the president-elect's pick to lead the Pentagon, is also expected to attend the game with Trump after receiving a warm welcome from skeptical lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week.

Tulsi Gabbard, who was nominated by President Trump to be Director of National Intelligence in his second administration, is also scheduled to attend the game. She has struggled to persuade senators to join the Trump administration.
