Person arrested after trying to jump White House fence

A person was arrested this weekend after attempting to climb a temporary fence near the White House, a Secret Service spokesperson said.

In a statement to The Hill, the spokesperson said that around 11 a.m. local time on Saturday, Secret Service Uniformed Division agents spotted an individual attempting to jump over a temporary scale barrier near the White House. Ta.

The fence has been in place around the property for just a month before the next presidential inauguration.

The person was “immediately taken into custody and arrested for trespassing,” the spokesperson wrote, adding that the person “did not breach the fence and no guardians were affected.”

A federal agency spokesperson said the person was transported to the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department for processing.

Asked for further comment, the Metropolitan Police Department said the case was “being handled by the United States Secret Intelligence Service.”

In late May 2017, the Secret Service arrested an individual who attempted to jump over a barricade near the White House grounds.

“The individual was charged with illegal entry and transferred to the Metropolitan Police Department,” the Secret Service said at the time.
