Gleaton Jones, Georgia football champion, dies after car crash

Former Georgia football player Gleaton Jones, who was a member of the 2021 national championship team, passed away on Friday.

He was 21 years old.

Jones was involved in a car accident earlier this week, but According to the UGA student newspaper “The Red & Black”and fell into critical condition.

According to reports, he suffered severe brain injuries in the accident.

The newspaper added that Jones was on a hunting trip on St. George Island, Florida.

Jones, a walk-on running back, did not appear in any Bulldogs games and is no longer with the team.

“Gleaton lived life to the fullest and brought joy and enthusiasm to every endeavor,” Jones said. Jones, a native of Albany, Georgia, is survived by his parents, Marlin Jones and Kirk Jones, and his brother Cole.

He was scheduled to graduate in the spring with a degree in marketing and return home to work with his father on the family farm.

“Gleaton had deep roots in southwest Georgia,” the obituary page says. “He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and had a genuine interest and appreciation for God's creation. As a child, he loved tractors and wanted to farm like his dad and grandfather. That's what I was talking about.

“From skiing in the mountains with his family to going on countless hunting trips with friends, he created cherished memories and found pure joy in enjoying the bounty of the outdoors with his loved ones. I felt it.”
