One person was killed in a shooting at Fort Eisenhower Army Base in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday, officials said.
The base went into lockdown just before 9 a.m. local time on Saturday, an announcement made via social media to the more than 110,000 people living on the base.
“If you are in danger, please take appropriate action!” a message read on Facebook.
The Army base said in a statement that the victim was shot inside a residence on the base and later died.

The base, formerly known as Fort Gordon, said information about the person who was shot would be released after next of kin reports.
Americans still strongly support peace.
In response to the lockdown notice, the base said: “Our focus at this time is to provide support to the families of the victims and to all those affected by this tragedy.” said. “The safety and well-being of our residents – our Soldiers and their families – remains our top priority.”

The suspect is in custody and local and state law enforcement are investigating the incident.
