Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Sunday on CBS' “Face the Nation” that she wants “more transparency” from the federal government about mysterious drones seen over the East Coast. .
A partial transcription follows:
MARGARET BRENNAN: I want to ask you about President Biden. Last week, he made a record number of commutes, which is 1,500 more Americans than the president does each day. However, some of the judges were involved in the so-called “cash for kids” scheme.
Klobuchar: I didn't like it. no.
BRENNAN: – The man who committed more than $1.6 billion in tax fraud that sent thousands of people to prison for millions of dollars has been described as “the most prolific, vicious, and totally unrepentant tax fraudster in American history.” The woman involved was in a $26 million scheme to defraud Medicare. Are you happy with some of these decisions?
Klobuchar: No. There was a guy in Duluth who basically ran a major drug house, and he had all this money sitting under the bathroom tiles for commuting expenses. So, my view is this. I also did not agree with pardoning the president's son. I also disagree with the numerous pardons President Trump has granted. So even though the ability to pardon is part of the Constitution, I believe, and I have maintained this for many years, that we are not going to change it. This goes back to President Lincoln, who personally made tough decisions regarding deserters from the military. It's been going on for a long time, but we need to have some kind of external committee that the governor has. Governors have the ability to give clemency to people after many years, but many of them have commissions that make recommendations and such, rather than just having people in the White House do it in the middle of the night. Masu. This makes no sense to me –
Brennan: Well, this was quite surprising. That's because the White House explained it was based solely on broad categories, not the specifics of the incident. Was that wise?
Klobuchar: That's right. Therefore, there is no doubt that this group had a legitimate amnesty. Well, let's do that. I think there were now, but there were a lot of things that didn't seem to make any sense at all. So instead of doing the whole category, if you're primarily going to do these things next year before the end of the president's term, why not have the board look at these and consider them individually? Is it? We need to base our petitions on facts, not just in large groups. I'm sure large groups have done this before, but I just think this whole process calls for reform. Otherwise, the justice system will be compromised. And again, this is a big deal under President Trump, and you are undermining the work of these FBI agents and these prosecutors who took these cases and sentenced them according to the sentencing guidelines. I'm doing it. Will you want mercy in 10 years? Yes, that may be true. But let's at least consider these on a fact-based and risk-based basis, not in the middle of the night a month before the president leaves office.
