Rep. Brian Mast, R-Florida, vowed that the United States would “never again be fooled” on the world stage and outlined his priorities as he leads the House Foreign Affairs Committee, calling for an “America first” policy. Implementing the policy, “Colonoscopy'' of the Department of State's activities.
In a video statement shared on social media on Sunday, Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) has announced ambitious plans as the newly elected chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, signaling a sharp shift toward an “America First” foreign policy.
“I've always loved fighting for America,” he began, noting that being elected chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee will allow him to approach his fight “from a slightly different angle.”
Mast, a decorated U.S. Army veteran who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan, will focus his time in office on ensuring that all diplomatic efforts and taxpayer dollars serve U.S. interests. I announced that I would put it down.
“Every diplomat and every dollar we sanction is to put America first,” he said emphatically. “If it doesn’t meet those standards, it won’t be approved.”
He explained that key to this agenda will be asking important questions about America's relations with foreign countries, including: What do they want from America? And… will what we offer… give us what we need? ”
These questions, he argued, would form the basis for a renewed approach to American diplomacy, suggesting that the United States was too often “played dumb” by them.
Mast also promised to review the State Department's programs “in great detail” and eliminate wasteful spending and controversial initiatives.
“We're going to give the State Department a colonoscopy,” he asserted.
He specifically called out funding for overseas cultural programs, such as hosting drag shows and promoting atheism, as examples of “unacceptable abuses” of taxpayers.
We're going to make sure the State Department doesn't build stages for drag shows in other countries and call it “infrastructure.” We're going to make sure the State Department doesn't spend half a million dollars of your funds to spread atheism in Nepal and other countries by saying we're “aimed at international religious freedom.” . That's what we're going to eradicate from the State Department, and so much more.
Following his election last week as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mast expressed “I am grateful and humbled by the confidence my colleagues in the Republican conference have placed in me by electing me…”
He added: “Under my leadership, our committee will have a clear mission statement. Every dollar and every diplomat will put America first.” “I will work with President Donald Trump, National Security Adviser Mike Walz, future Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Chairman Mario Díaz-Balart, and Chairman Mike Johnson to implement a comprehensive State Department reauthorization. I look forward to fixing our broken foreign policy.”
Mr. Mast's selection as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee underscores the broader Republican focus on realigning foreign policy under his leadership.
