On Friday, employees at a San Francisco coffee shop took quick action after spotting a masked man entering Carlin's Cafe and attempting to steal a customer's backpack. KTVU-TV reported.
surveillance video Inside the cafe, employee Nick Grant can be seen behind the counter as a man walks in and immediately targets a customer sitting by the window.
“We want people to feel empowered to do more.”
At that moment, Grant quickly advanced towards the man, rammed him with his cart, grabbed him from behind and began punching him. The video shows the man spraying the substance at Grant, who responds by slamming him to the floor and pinning him to the ground.
“Fortunately, I brought my cart and I hit him with the cart, and from there we started fighting,” Grant told KTVU. “He bear attacked me. We rolled around on the ground for a little while and I held him until the police came.”
The video shows another person coming to the cafe to assist Grant, and that person soon picking up a container (possibly mace) that had fallen from the scuffle. Several other people watched the fight, and Grant held him down for seven minutes until police arrived, police said.
Grant added that his background in security and combat training gave him an immediate advantage in combat.
According to KTVU, police say the man in question is Amir Monar, 42, of Concord, who is being held in the San Francisco County Jail on charges including attempted robbery and has outstanding warrants from other counties. He added that it was being served.
Grant returned to work at Carlins the next morning and told the station: “I'm a little sore this morning. I'm still coughing. But I'm fine.” “I'm not going to let someone like that stop me from doing what I love.”
According to KTVU, some customers noticed a small cut on Grant's head and one of them hugged him.
Alejandra Ramirez, who works at Black Heart Tattoo Shop down the street, visited Carlins on Saturday to show her support after seeing a video on social media, the station said. His backpack or whatever was foreign to him. I think that's pretty cool. ”
Grant told KTVU that crimes like this are not uncommon in the area, and that police have been slow to respond.
“I'm really happy to be there,” he told the station. “You know that in certain situations, there are times when people look away and there are moments when they act. I want people to feel more empowered to act. .”
