Plans are underway to cement President Joe Biden's legacy before he leaves office, according to a memo drafted by White House communications director Ben LaBolt.
President-elect Donald Trump is set to take office on January 20, but Biden has several initiatives he wants to finish before it's too late.
There are some actions that President Trump cannot undo, and there are other initiatives that may be dismantled.
In a memo obtained by Bloomberg, LaBolt said, “A president's term in office is not measured only in terms of weeks, months, or even four years; rather, his or her influence is measured over the coming years and decades. “It will be done,” he said. “The seeds that President Biden and Vice President Harris have sown over the past four years are starting to germinate, and their potential will be fully unleashed well into the future.”
The measures include mandating land protections, implementing more amnesties, promoting artificial intelligence and shifting student debt to taxpayers.
Bloomberg's Josh Wingrove and Eric Martin reported:
The final weeks of his administration will be marked by a series of efforts to enshrine his legacy. Biden gave a speech last week praising his economic achievements and hosted a conference on women's health. The Environmental Protection Agency announced $735 million in awards for clean energy vehicles, one area President Trump could turn around.
According to Bloomberg, LaBolt hinted at key agenda items going forward.
- Artificial intelligence and student loan cancellation without clear countermeasures
- New funding through the Computer Chip Act of 2022, Inflation Control Act, and High Speed Internet Fund for States
- “Working with state, local, tribal, and business leaders, we will continue to take action to protect our nation's lands and waters and continue our climate ambitions,” Biden said.
- LaBolt did not go into details about the new commutations and pardons, but the White House has ruled out attempts to pardon people ahead of what appears to be an act of retaliation by the Trump administration to prosecute top Democratic officials. Not yet
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed Thursday that Biden is talking with his team about granting preemptive pardons to allies.
Democrats and allies in the media have been urging Biden in recent weeks to pardon many of his allies. include Christopher Wray, Justice Department attorney, Joe Biden himself, all of them. Biden family, mark milley liz cheneyRepresentative Nancy Pelosi, Representative Adam Kinzinger, and others.
Although a preemptive pardon could be seen as an admission of wrongdoing by the recipient, some Democrats have argued that a preemptive pardon is only intended to prevent President-elect Donald Trump from cleaning up Washington. There is.
