A 15-year-old girl, a teacher and a teenage student were killed and six others were injured in a shooting Monday at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, authorities said.
Madison Police Chief Sean Burns announced that Natalie Rapnow has been identified as the shooter in the study hall at Abundant Life Christian School. Responding officers found Lupnow suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She died on the way to the hospital.
Burns said police are speaking with Rapnow's father and other family members who are cooperating with him and are searching Rapnow's home. He declined to provide further details about the shooter, out of concern for his family.
“He lost someone, too,” Burns said of Rapnow's father. “So we're not going to rush the information. We're going to take our time and make sure we do our due diligence.”

Burns said officers responded to a 911 call from a sophomore reporting a shooting just before 11 a.m.
Burns said Rapnow used a handgun in the shooting, but police have not yet determined a motive for the attack.
“I don't know the reason, but I feel like if I knew the reason, I would be able to prevent this from happening,” he told reporters.

Burns said he can't believe the school, which serves 200 students, according to the school's website, has a resource officer. It was also revealed that the school did not have metal detectors, but cameras and other security protocols were in place.

President Biden spoke with Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and Madison Mayor Satya Rose Conway after the shooting and issued a separate statement calling the incident “shocking and unconscionable.”
“We will never tolerate the senseless violence that traumatizes children and their families and tears apart entire communities,” Biden said.
