I didn't know Adam Schefter vs. Doug Gottlieb was the sports beef the internet needed until Monday night.
In the blue corner, the king of NFL insiders, the guy who's happy to parrot anything as long as you keep him informed. Mr. “Bruce Allen is my editor.” Himself…Adam Schefter.
The red corner, the man from Milwaukee's mouth fighting and boasting 1,000 terrifying takes, will steal your heart (and your credit card)…Doug Gottlieb.
This is how it all happened. On Monday night, Schefter tweeted about the possibility of Michael Vick becoming head coach at Sacramento State, saying the school has “$50 million in NIL funding” and saying the school is attractive. It was suggested that this was a perfect landing point.
Sacramento State is in talks to hire former Pro Bowl QB Mike Vick as its new head coach, according to sources. Sacramento State plans to move to FBS, is building a new stadium and has more than $50 million in NIL. Sacramento State will build an experienced coaching staff around Vick…

Obviously this is strange. There isn't a planet on the planet where Sacramento State has more than $50 million in free cash flow to put into NIL. That's more than the majority of Power 4 schools. in fact, There is evidence that $50 million actually spans the next 10 yearswhich is still very impressive for a school the size of Sacramento State, is still a misleading way for Schefter to describe it.
At the end of the day, no one should care, but Doug Gottlieb decided to call out Shefty on the matter.
Schefter usually seems like he's rolling water off a duck's back, but today was different.
SAC-12 Leads Schools' NIL Efforts SAC-12 has made an initial commitment to raise $50 million in NIL funds to strengthen the school's case for invitation to the PAC-12 or Mountain West Conference. We have already announced that we have achieved our goal.

Are you ready to make hay? Schefter was preparing it…
This applies directly to Gottlieb's ego. Green Bay made a lot of noise in 2023-24 by hiring Gottlieb to take the team to the next level after an 18-14 season, but so far everything has gone off the rails. Phoenix is 2-10, has six players transfer, and regularly loses by more than 20 points.
If Shefty dunks this hard on you, all you can do is tuck your tail between your legs and back away.
We have to raise money for the stadium, the coaches and the NIL. Saying it's $50 million in NIL is disingenuous.

Gottlieb isn't wrong here, but that's Doug Gottlieb, so he doesn't deserve props.
