Hollywood LGBTQ Elites Panicking over Second Trump Administration, Some Planning to Flee

Hollywood's LGBTQ stars and other elites are reportedly panicking over the inauguration of the second Trump administration, with some already fleeing the country or considering doing so in the near future. It is said that some people do.

“I can't sleep at night because of it.” [worrying] For myself and for the broader community, especially the transgender community,” Kirsten Shafer, executive director of Women in Film, told TheWrap. “Last time there were more guardrails. [Trump] There was no House of Representatives, no Senate, and no Judiciary. ”

Screenwriter Brent Hartinger, who left the U.S. in 2017 after Trump was first elected, told the outlet: “This time there will be an even bigger exodus.”

The Wrap's article comes as President-elect Donald Trump has nominated openly gay appointees to his incoming administration, including Scott Bessent as Treasury secretary. He also named Richard Grenell, the former acting director of national intelligence, as special presidential envoy.

President Trump has consistently said he does not oppose same-sex marriage and has even hosted a gay wedding at Mar-a-Lago.

Multiple anonymous sources told TheWrap that they are at least considering leaving the United States, but not everyone can afford to start over in another country.
But most of the gay men TheWrap spoke to seemed to be taking a “wait and see” approach, thinking it might all be an exaggeration.

“I really don't think so. [Trump]That's homophobic,” said Mark Heutis, founder of the Gay Film Festival and friend of murdered gay politician Harvey Milk.

Author and comedian Bruce Vilanch said he believes there is “a level of hysteria” within Los Angeles' LGBTQ community. “I don't think it's as dire as they say, but I understand,” he said.

An anonymous Hollywood publicist reportedly wasn't sure whether the panic was justified. “We have no idea how real some of these risks are and what is exaggeration,” the official said.

Much of the panic seems to be coming from transgender people.

Transgender Hollywood star Laverne Cox recently spoke to Variety about the possibility of moving to Europe or the Caribbean in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's victory.

Cox also talked about the Trump administration hoarding estrogen for fear of confiscating it.

President Trump has never said his administration would take hormones away from transgender adults.

Instead, he has campaigned to prevent men with dysphoria from participating in women's sports and to end irreversible sex-reassignment procedures performed on minors. This practice is extremely controversial; new york times is in doubt.
