Max Fried's introduction to the Yankees had a fun twist.
The pitcher, who signed an eight-year, $218 million contract, the largest contract for an ace left-handed pitcher in MLB history, and his girlfriend Leni Meyer-Walley spoke at his induction press conference at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. They made their relationship public.
Meyer Worley, a former University of Southern California volleyball player, sat in the front row with her mother, Carrie Freed, who also posed with her family on the podium.
At the beginning of the press conference, Yankees manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman handed out flowers to Fried's mother and girlfriend.
It's unclear when Freed and Meyer-Wally, both from Los Angeles, began dating.

Meyer Walley was a libero and defensive specialist for the Women of Troy.
As a senior in 2017, she played in all 35 of USC's games, started 34, played in all 136 sets and recorded a team-high 12 double-doubles.
Meyer Worley transferred to the University of Southern California after redshirting his freshman year at the University of Washington.
It is also unclear exactly how she and Freed met.

Fried, a three-time Gold Glove Award winner, became a member of the new Yankees after star left fielder Juan Soto was lost to the Mets.
The Bombers also added outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger and pitcher Devin Williams after their disappointing loss to the Dodgers in the 2024 World Series.
