Dennis Rodman has posted a public apology after his daughter, USWNT star Trinity Rodman, said on the podcast “Call Her Daddy” that her father was absent and an alcoholic.
On his Instagram on Thursday, the four-time NBA champion explained that although he's been stopped from trying to meet Trinity, he won't stop trying to connect with her.
“I'm sorry, I wasn't the father you wanted, but either way, I still tried, and I still will continue to try, and I'll never stop.” Rodman wroteincluding a video showing photos of them over the years. “Even though I am told as an adult not to answer the phone, I will keep trying. Even if it is difficult or takes a long time, I will try. I will always be here. And always tell me how proud you are of me in your voice or voicemail. I've always had one wish, that my children would call me and come see me. I hope I get it someday. I'm here and I'm still trying to pick up the phone, you have my number. I see you calling, I'm still here, Dennis Rodman – Dad.
“FYI: I watch you play all the time 😊 (I actually flew over to watch you play, but the person I was with instead told me not to go, (And I just wanted to support you, so I was watching you from my hotel balcony just to do that.) Everybody's happy. I love All My Kids,” Rodman said. He concluded by adding the hashtags “No'' and “.[stories]”
Rodman is the father of Trinity and her brother Dennis Rodman Jr., 23, from his marriage to Michelle Moyer.
He has a daughter, Alexis, 36, from his first marriage to Annie Bakes.
Rodman's apology came after Trinity discussed family issues during an appearance on Wednesday's “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
“We kind of went on a road trip and kind of lived in it a little bit.” Trinity told host Alex Cooper:stated that some may think that money is not an issue for her growing up. “We tried to move in with him, but he parties 24/7 and brings random girlfriends. He loves the spotlight. He loves the camera. ”
Rodman was known for his wild partying lifestyle, including a marriage to model Carmen Electra in Las Vegas that lasted only a few months.
Trinity called Rodman an “alcoholic” who frequently changes his phone number and only uses a flip phone.
The Washington Spirit forward also revealed that when he didn't contact her in years after he surprised her with a Spirit win during an NWSL playoff game in November 2021, she “gave up hope of getting him back.” I remember the moment when I lost it.
After the match, the two hugged and Trinity wept in his arms as cameras surrounded her.
Trinity said that in that moment, her father appeared better in the media because he seemed like a supportive father. However, her father did not speak to her for many years after that.
Trinity has been very secretive about her relationship with her father, but said she had kept a lot of anger built up over the long period of silence to protect his father's image.
“We don't want to give him a bad impression, and that requires a lot of patience,” she said. “The anger that I couldn’t let out was probably just as painful for me.”
