Trump backs Johnson’s new 116-page skinny CR following GOP pressure campaign

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday released a new 116-page continuing resolution that was approved by President-elect Donald Trump.

The new CR is significantly reduced from the original 1,547-page funding bill Mr Johnson proposed on Tuesday night. Within 24 hours, Johnson's initial remarks became the focus of scrutiny from Republicans, MAGA allies, and Trump himself.

A day before the Dec. 20 funding deadline, Prime Minister Johnson, with support from President Trump, introduced a politically viable bill that could save Congress from a looming government shutdown.

Trump opposed Johnson's original CR. be considered “Ridiculous” and “Extraordinarily expensive.” Trump also made a last-minute demand for Johnson to resolve debt ceiling negotiations, which are due in June, before taking office in January.

This time, Prime Minister Johnson abolished many health insurance and agricultural aid provisions and set out a clear CR for the three months until March 14th. In addition to disaster relief for hurricane victims, the CR also includes a two-year suspension of debt limits until January 2027.
