Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has waived extradition and will face charges in New York.
Mangione was taken into custody at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on December 9 after police received a call about a man matching a photo circulated by the New York City Police Department, Breitbart News reported.
Mr. Mangione was later charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was killed at 6:44 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, outside the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan. However, his lawyer argued for extradition during his arraignment.
NBC News is Currently reporting Mangione has waived extradition and will be heading to New York to face charges.
On Tuesday, Manhattan Prosecutor Alvin Bragg indicated he was aware of Mr. Mangione's plan to waive extradition, saying the suspect would “immediately be taken to New York.”
Federal charges against Mangione “are expected to be dismissed later today.” CNN reported.
Breitbart News noted that Mangione had a gun in his possession at the time of his arrest, and its trajectory matched the shell casing found at the scene of Thompson's death.
