Frito-Lay potato chips recall due to ‘risk of life-threatening allergic reaction’

Frito-Lay has announced that its 13-oz. The bags are being recalled. According to the Food and Drug Administration.

“People with allergies or severe sensitivities to milk who consume the recalled products may be at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction,” the FDA said in a notice posted Monday. .

According to the FDA, the product recall affects bags of potato chips distributed to retail stores in Oregon and Washington.

The affected chips have been on sale since at least Nov. 3, and no allergic reactions have been reported so far, according to the FDA.

The affected products have UPC codes 28400 and 31041, the agency said. The product's “warranted new” date is February 11, 2025, and the manufacturing code is one of the following – 6462307xx
or 6463307xx.

Consumers are asked to contact Frito-Lay at 1-800-352-4477. Frito-Lay is a subsidiary of snack and beverage conglomerate PepsiCo.

The recall of Frito-Lay chips is the latest in a series of recent incidents that have raised widespread concerns about food safety.

Last month, cucumbers shipped by Arizona-based supplier Sunfed Produce were recalled in 26 states and Canada after health officials suspected a salmonella outbreak.

Salmonella was also blamed in Costco's recall of thousands of cartons of eggs that were grown on farms in New York state and shipped to stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Around the same time, frozen food companies that make waffles and pancakes sold at major U.S. supermarkets, including Walmart, Kroger and Whole Foods, expanded recalls of their products over concerns about listeria contamination.

The listeria outbreak also prompted deli meat manufacturer Boar's Head to close a large plant in Virginia after health inspectors cited unsanitary conditions.

At least 10 people reportedly died after eating contaminated deli meat.

In total, more than 740 food and beverage recalls have occurred this year, more than double the number reported in 2023 and nearly triple the 2022 total.
