Eddie Howe was also delighted. He has given his Newcastle team a “good feeling” ahead of tomorrow's match against Ipswich. The Magpies head to Portman Road after a 4-0 win over Leicester in the Premier League last Saturday and a Carabao Cup win over Brentford in the midweek quarter-finals.
Newcastle are in mixed form and sit 12th in the table, but Howe believes their confidence is growing and their 12 goals in four games is a factor in that.
He said: “I think we're human beings and we've had some confidence issues, a little bit at times in certain games. But I think we've seen a really good atmosphere within the team in the last two performances. I think three of the last four have been very strong and as strong as we've seen this season.
“I hope that's a good sign. I think we're scoring again and that's a big confidence booster. We scored three goals last night too, but maybe we'll score more from other areas of the pitch. We could have done that, but we weren't able to do that this season.
“We've historically always scored goals from everywhere. I think that's a really important aspect and it was great to see Sandro (Tonali) score two big goals for us. I think if you believe that you can score goals from a variety of sources and areas on your team, you will naturally feel better about yourself.”PA media)
