Ravens cut Diontae Johnson to end disastrous post-trade marriage

That was Diontae Johnson's only contribution on the field for the Baltimore Ravens, but the talented but troubled wide receiver was unceremoniously waived by the team on Friday afternoon.

Johnson, who was traded in October to the Carolina Panthers for a fifth-round pick along with another fifth-round pick, racked up as many suspensions as receptions with the Ravens.

The former Pro Bowler was suspended for refusing to play in the Ravens' Dec. 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. listed on their website when announcing the release.

Pro football reference notes Johnson appeared in four games for the Ravens, playing a total of 39 snaps, but was targeted just five times.

Johnson had 30 catches for 357 yards and three receiving touchdowns this season with the Panthers.

Johnson was originally traded to the Panthers in a late pick swap for starting cornerback Donte Jackson.

Jackson has five interceptions this season, tied for fourth in the NFL, and has started all 14 games for Pittsburgh this season.

Johnson suited up for the Steelers through the 2023 season after the team selected him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

The 5-foot-10 wideout's peak came in 2021, when he had 107 catches, 1,161 receiving yards and eight touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Johnson, 28, was scheduled to head to free agency this offseason — now he has a strong head start on finding his next destination.
