Speaker Johnson ‘on Thin Ice’ After Spending Bill

After the House passed a short-term spending bill to fund the government through March by a 366-34 margin on Friday, Fox News' Congressional Correspondents asked why this vote would be difficult for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R). He explained what could be the symptoms. LA).

Despite the lopsided difference, the Johnson-led effort required Democrats to join Republicans for passage.

“The sight of the shutdown created a problem for House Speaker Mike Johnson,” Pergram explained during Friday's broadcast of FNC's “Jesse Watters Prime Time.” “He's on thin ice right now, especially after negotiating a massive 1,500-page bill with Democrats. The House will vote for speaker on January 3.”

Pergram said multiple votes may be needed to select a House speaker with a thin Republican majority early next year.

But he said President-elect Donald Trump could play a role.

“My final question is, Chairman Johnson, do you feel comfortable voting for yourself to hold the office for at least two more years?” asked substitute host Brian Kilmeade.

“Now, what did you hear? [Rep.] So Corey Mills said, I don't know if anyone can beat him, but I think the vote on January 3rd will be very difficult,” Pergram said. “The reason is that someone has to get a full majority of all members to vote by name. He could lose one vote. I wouldn't be surprised if it went to the third round. Almost two years ago, the fight with Kevin McCarthy went to the 15th round. I don't think that's going to happen.

“And if President-elect Trump clearly supports Speaker Johnson, that will be the Speaker of the House.”
